Ever dreamt of seeing the world and making art at the same time? You may have heard of workshops offered in exotic locales such as Bali or Ireland, but have you considered what the clay community abroad might have to offer American artists?
Cat’s journey in international exhibition she has some news for you…it IS possible to show, teach, and connect with artist around the world…and it is much easier than you thought.
Inspired by experience in the classroom, career and technical ceramics program developed over past decade to demonstrate for students what can be achieved when a plan is made and persistence and balance in work and focus are the rule.
This lecture is a basic outline of a path Cat has followed to find abundant and exciting opportunity world wide!
Life Scale Figure in Paper Clay
Join me in Barcelona Spain!
In this two-day workshop, participants will learn how to use Cat’s approach to sculpting a hollow life-scale figure in clay. Participants will each build a 24” tall sculpture from mid torso to the head.
Instruction will cover how Cat uses paper clay slabs to create simple hollow forms that coordinate with photographic and drawn references to anchor her process in naturalism. Cat will lead participants through foundational anatomical concepts and sculpting strategies to encourage greater accuracy and expression as the components of the figure come together as a whole.
This workshop is perfect for anyone wanting to make larger figurative ceramics using the approachable methods of a skilled instructor. Participants of any skill level will be able to engage with Cat’s techniques with minimal equipment and materials. Suitable for all skill levels.
